Aorta - The Largest Artery of the Body

The aorta is the largest artery of the body and carries oxygenated blood away from the heart to every single area of the human body.

This major artery further subdivides into several sections that deliver this oxygenated blood to specific areas of the body. It starts at the left ventricle then goes up a little then forms an arch and then goes down through the abdominal cavity where it branches into the two common iliac arteries.

This mayor vessel must remain healthy in order to distribute the necessary amounts of blood to all body tissues but sometimes problems like an abdominal aortic aneurysm or aortic stenosis may occur.
