What is a crp test? A crp blood test is done to measure the amount of
C reactive protein in the blood. This C reactive protein test is done to check if the person has an inflammatory process going on. This may include, arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, autoimmune disease or any other inflammatory problems.

An elevated crp level may indicate the patient may be having an infection as a result of any of the conditions mentioned above.

According to studies, there is a link between a high C reactive protein in the blood and heart attacks, strokes, and other problems. For these reason, Doctors may want to have it checked on those who are at risk. If he doesn't bring it up, you may want to let him know you would like to have it checked; that is if you are at risk.

CRP levels tend to increase on acute situations. When a patient has surgery those levels may increase in one to 2 days.

The test itself is done just like any other blood draw. It can be done at the same time other blood work is being drawn. Just make sure you tell your Doctor about conditions you may have.
