Good Cholesterol

Good cholesterol is HDL cholesterol which is a lipoprotein that serves as a cholesterol carrier. Cholesterol needs this lipoprotein because it cannot move by itself. HDL cholesterol cleans out excess cholesterol from the blood vessels and carries it back to the liver for processing.

HDL cholesterol levels between 40 mg/DL and 60 mg/DL are considered normal and levels below 40 mg/DL is considered a high risk for coronary artery disease. HDL cholesterol levels greater that 60 mg/DL may protect people from heart disease.
