Heart diagram: The human heart

The human heart is a complicated and at the same time an amazing organ that works non stop our entire lives. It is responsible for supplying oxygenated blood to all areas or our body. Everything within the heart must function correctly to ensure that we continue to have a healthy life.

The heart picture above shows some of the most prominent areas that make this amazing organ. Its anatomy is composed of an outer sack called the pericardium that helps protect the myocardium (the heart muscle).

The superior vena cava delivers deoxygenated blood to the heart from the upper portion of the body.

The inferior vena cava (The largest vein of the body) delivers deoxygenated blood to the heart from the lower portion of the body.

The aorta is the largest artery of the human body and it is responsible for delivering oxygenated blood to all areas of the body.
