Heart Palpitations
What are heart palpitations? Palpitations are fast and strong heart beats with feelings of an uncomfortable pounding sensation on your chest.
For example, when you get very scared, your heart rate beats fast and loud. With palpitations, the heart rate may be regular (sinus rhythm) or irregular (sinus arrhythmia).Palpitations are sometimes uncomfortable and you can feel them in your chest, throat, or neck and when you are laying down, you can hear your heart pounding through the pillow and sometimes this can cause you a difficult time falling asleep. Heart palpitation causes - a short list: Certain medications like decongestants and diet pills(1) Certain medical conditions like thyroid disease or anemia(1) Stress Anxiety Caffeine Smoking Alcohol Exercise Depression Heart disease Arrhythmias Panic attacts High blood pressure Palpitations can be harmless(1) if they are experienced by short periods of time and are caused by things that can be modified like stress or chemical consumption for example. If you want to get rid of them, you need to do some lifestyle modifications like managing stress better, quit smoking, stop drinking alcohol, and getting rid of caffeine. They can be dangerous if they are caused on people who are at high risk of a heart attack and immediate treatment is need especially if the patient is experiencing irregular heart beats. Irregular heart beats are called arrhythmias in the medical field. You need to call your Doctor if you are experiencing a palpitation episode. He may need to have you come in for an evaluation. Write down when the episode started, what where you doing, what medications or remedies you are taking, and how you felt at the time. 1.
