Sinus Tachycardia – Fast Heart Rate
Sinus tachycardia is a term used for a heart rate over 100 beats per minute. Causes of a fast heart rate can occur from normal physiological events such as exercise. During exercise, the heart rate goes up and then it goes back to normal after resting. Other causes of a rapid heart rate are stress, anger, pain, anxiety, nervousness, hypoxia, stimulants such as caffeine and illicit drugs. Alcohol withdrawals can also cause an elevated heart rate. The rhythm below is regular and there is a p wage with every QRS but you can see there is less space between the QRS intervals when compared to sinus rhythm (normal heart rate) and sinus bradycardia (low heart rate). This is because the heart is heating faster.  Sinus TachycardiaThe main intervention for treating an elevated heart rate is to threat the cause. If you are under stress, have anxiety, and get angry all the time for example, you need to find a way to manage them because a long term elevated heart rate, may cause some problems in the long run. There is no other medication that can replace exercise and a healthy diet and integrating the two on a daily basis will help maintain your heart strong and keep it healthy.
