Smoking And Health

Smoking and health: Submitted By Judy Filarecki,

I started smoking when I was 18 and stopped about 4 times for varying lengths of time up until I was 36. At 36, I had been divorced for about 2 years and kept telling my 10 year old son that I would quit once I didn't have so much stress to deal with.

At that particular time, I decided to take better care of myself by eating a healthier diet and exercising regularly. Quitting smoking was not on the list of healthier things to do. I was a physical therapist, and was always telling other people how to help themselves, so it was about time I started telling myself.

Six months later, I ran out of cigarettes at 10 to 9 on a Sunday night. I panicked and started to run out the door to get to the store before it closed. How could I possibly get through tomorrow without a cigarette.

I stopped. It suddenly hit me that I had been smoking less and less and actually didn't even like it any more, and the stress was gone.

I put the car keys away and haven't smoked since. I'm am now 66 years old and just realized that it is 30 years since I quit...WOW.

I realized as time went on that the only way I quit successfully was by eating healthier food and exercising regularly. My body was getting what it needed and I felt great.

Over the years, I have focused on natural ways to heal my body. As all the precursors of heart disease crept into my aging body including diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, excessive weight around the middle, and whatever else, the list of medications grew. I felt terrible, and I knew that there were better natural things for me to do, and I finally found an answer.

Over the past year and a half I have started writing a web page on
natural health information to share what I have learned.

Just recently, I wrote a free e book called "Keep Your Exercise Healthy" which is getting very good responses.

I feel like I am 36 again and look forward to many more years of health combining healthy nutrition and regular exercise.

I quit smoking accidentally, but I sure am glad I did. If you are trying to quit, maybe you shouldn't focus on quitting but rather focus on doing positive things to make you healthier.

I had a doctor tell me that if you give your body the right fuel, it will heal itself. And you know what? He was right.
