Superior vena cava and inferior vena cava
The superior vena cava is a large blood vessel (vein) that returns deoxygenated blood from the upper portion of the body to the heart.
These include the neck, head, and arms. It starts at the top of the chest close to the sternum and it lies just next to the upper lobe of the right lung. The inferior vena cava is also a large vein that returns deoxygenated blood to the heart from the lower part of the body. These include the lower extremities, the abdomen and the pelvic areas. It lies next to the right of the orta, starts in the lower part of the abdomen and it receives blood from the two common iliac veins (one on each side). It also receives blood from the hepatic and renal veins.
Both vena cavae deliver the blood into the right atrium where it goes to the right ventricle and then to the lungs where it picks up oxygen and the process continues.
