Veins

Veins are blood vessels of the circulatory system that return deoxygenated blood, towards the heart and have three layers just like the arteries: the tunica adventitia is the outer layer, the tunica media is the medial layer, and the tunica intima is the inner layer.

They do the opposite of the arteries (arteries carry oxygenated blood away from the heart). Because venous blood lacks oxygen, its color is darker than arterial blood. They do not pulsate like arteries do and they are far more abundant than arteries. Unlike arteries, most of them have flaps or valves that prevent blood from flowing back to the lower extremities.

Heart Attacks are the number one killer in America. Make it your goal in life to prevent a heart attack in the future. Start paying attention to your daily habits such as diet, exercise, stress, smoking, alcohol, and drugs. Practicing good habits on an ongoing basis will help you lead a future healthy life.
